SolidPing vs Oh Dear

Oh Dear is website-health monitoring, built in Belgium and well known in the Laravel and PHP world. It started as uptime, certificates and broken links. It now crawls whole sites for broken links and mixed content, runs Lighthouse audits, checks sitemaps, DNS records, domain expiry and cron jobs, and reads a JSON health endpoint from your application. In August 2025 it added ping and TCP monitors.

Both sides of this page are hosted services. Oh Dear is SaaS only, so the subject here is SolidPing Cloud: our plans, our six regions, our limits. The free self-hosted build is covered at the end and is not in the table.

The two tools are built for different buyers. Oh Dear watches the quality of a website. SolidPing watches the infrastructure behind it. They overlap on uptime, certificates, cron heartbeats and status pages, and that overlap is what this page compares.

Where SolidPing Cloud is the stronger choice

Price, once you have more than a handful of sites. Oh Dear charges per monitor, from about $8.50 each on the smallest plan down to about $2.20 at 200. SolidPing charges for the check rate. 100 monitors checked every minute is 100 checks a minute, which is our €15 plan. On Oh Dear it is $275. An agency with 200 client sites checked every five minutes uses 40 checks a minute, also €15 with us, and $439 on Oh Dear.

A free plan that stays free. Oh Dear has a 10-day trial. SolidPing Cloud has a permanent free plan with 100 monitors and on-call included.

Checks faster than once a minute. Oh Dear's floor is one minute. Ours is 10 seconds on every plan, paid for out of the checks-per-minute budget.

Things that are not websites. Oh Dear probes HTTP, ping and TCP. SolidPing adds DNS queries, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MSSQL, Oracle, Redis, MongoDB and ClickHouse, SMTP, IMAP and POP3, SSH, FTP, SFTP, gRPC, WebSocket, Kafka, RabbitMQ, MQTT, SNMP, Docker, Kubernetes, game servers, browser checks and sandboxed JavaScript checks.

Anything inside your network. Oh Dear has no private agents. SolidPing Cloud lets you run deported agents inside your own network, one on Free and up to five on Scale.

On-call is in the product. Oh Dear's own comparison table says it has no incident management or on-call and hands escalation to PagerDuty or Opsgenie. SolidPing has rotations, overrides and multi-step escalation on every plan, Free included.

Where Oh Dear is the stronger choice

Website quality, not just uptime. Oh Dear crawls the whole site for broken links and mixed content, runs scheduled Lighthouse audits, validates the sitemap and can check page content with natural-language assertions. SolidPing does none of this. If the question is "is the site healthy", not "is the server up", Oh Dear answers more of it.

A much larger probe network. 33 servers in 16 cities on six continents, against our six regions. Every failure is confirmed from a second city and provider before you are alerted. We report per-region results and do not have that confirmation step.

Built for agencies. Monthly uptime reports, PDF export, client branding and scoped client access. Unlimited team members, SSO and 2FA on every plan. SolidPing has none of the reporting side, and our seats are counted per plan.

SMS is included, and so are Telegram and Opsgenie. Oh Dear sends SMS through Vonage. SolidPing Cloud does not include SMS, voice or WhatsApp at all today, and has no Telegram or Opsgenie integration. If one of those is how your team gets alerted, that decides it.

DNS change alerts. Oh Dear tells you when a DNS record changes. Our DNS check is up or down only.

The Laravel and PHP ecosystem. First-party packages expose an application health endpoint that Oh Dear reads. If that is your stack, the integration is already written.

The other model, on both sides

Oh Dear does not self-host. Everything is checked from its own servers.

SolidPing does, and that build has no plan. The same Go binary, AGPL-3.0, on your own SQLite or PostgreSQL: unlimited monitors, unlimited check rate, unlimited private agents and status-page domains, 30 members by default and more in config. SMS, voice and WhatsApp work too, with your own Twilio account. You pay for the machine and you own the pager when the monitoring breaks.

Which should you pick?

Pick Oh Dear if you look after client websites and care about broken links, mixed content, Lighthouse scores and monthly reports, if you are on Laravel, or if you need SMS or a probe in many cities today. It does that job well and SolidPing does not try to.

Pick SolidPing if most of your monitors are endpoints, hosts, databases or queues rather than web pages, if you have more than a few dozen of them and per-monitor pricing adds up, or if someone needs to be on call. Start on the free plan. If the caps or the missing SMS get in the way, the self-hosted build has neither.
