SolidPing vs StatusCake

StatusCake sits exactly between UptimeRobot and Pingdom, and it knows it. UK-based since 2010, 120,000 users, 43 monitoring locations across 30 countries, and a free tier that includes 75 SMS credits a month — which is unusual enough to be the reason a lot of people are on it. It monitors uptime, page speed, SSL, domains and Linux servers, and does all five competently.

Both sides here are hosted services. StatusCake is hosted only, so the table compares it against SolidPing Cloud, plan caps and all. Our self-hosted build is covered separately below.

It is worth reading this page if you have hit one of StatusCake's edges: the free plan's ten monitors and five-minute interval, the jump to €19.99/mo for the next step up, the protocol list stopping at SSH, or the absence of on-call rotations.

Prices below were last checked against StatusCake's own pricing page in July 2026. If we've gotten a detail wrong, please open an issue.

Where SolidPing Cloud is the stronger choice

The gap between free and paid. StatusCake's free plan is ten monitors at five minutes; the next step is €16.66/mo billed annually. SolidPing Cloud's free plan is 100 monitors and a 10-checks-per-minute budget you spend however you like, and the paid ladder starts at €5 for a thousand monitors.

Protocol coverage past the web tier. StatusCake's list is good for a mid-market SaaS — it has SSH, which most do not — but it stops there. SolidPing covers 40 check types: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MSSQL, Oracle, Redis, MongoDB, ClickHouse; IMAP and POP3 alongside SMTP, plus a passive email-reception check; gRPC, Kafka, RabbitMQ, MQTT, SIP; RDP, FTP, SFTP; SNMP, Docker, Kubernetes, Prometheus; UDP, NTP, DNSBL; WebSocket; headless-browser and sandboxed JavaScript checks.

Body assertions. StatusCake matches strings in the response. SolidPing does string, regex and JSONPath, so a health endpoint's JSON can actually be asserted on.

Nobody is on call. StatusCake routes alerts to contact groups. It has no rotation, no override, no escalation if the first person misses it — that is what you add PagerDuty for. SolidPing has all three, on every plan including Free.

Maintenance windows are not a paid feature. They are on every SolidPing plan, with recurrence. StatusCake gates them behind a subscription.

Internal infrastructure. StatusCake probes from its own network only. SolidPing Cloud lets you run deported agents inside yours — one on Free, up to five on Scale — holding credentials the server cannot decrypt.

Where StatusCake is the stronger choice

43 probe locations you did not have to build. 200+ servers across 30 countries, with published IP lists for firewall allow-listing and a minimum of four servers per region. Ours is six regions, four of them in Europe. On raw geographic coverage this is not close.

75 free SMS credits a month, and we ship none at all. This is the sharpest single row on the page. StatusCake gives SMS away on its free plan; SolidPing Cloud does not include SMS, voice or WhatsApp on any plan — the carriers bill per message and we have not priced them in. If SMS alerting is load-bearing for your team, StatusCake wins on this alone and no other row makes up for it.

Page speed monitoring. Full-page load analysis with waterfalls and global locations. We do not have this.

Server monitoring. A Linux agent reporting CPU, RAM and disk alongside the uptime checks. SolidPing watches services, not host metrics — for those you would run Prometheus next to it and point a prometheus check at it.

Fifteen years of operating history, and a support organisation behind it. SolidPing is younger.

Domain monitoring includes DNS record change detection, not just expiry. Ours watches expiry via RDAP with a WHOIS fallback, and DNS as its own check type, which is close but not identical.

The other model, on both sides

StatusCake does not self-host. There is no on-premise build.

SolidPing does, and it flips the SMS row. The self-hosted build is the same binary under AGPL-3.0 with no plan attached: unlimited monitors, unlimited check rate, unlimited private agents and status-page domains, 30 members by default — and SMS, voice and WhatsApp all work, because you connect your own Twilio account and pay Twilio directly. So the honest summary is that StatusCake beats SolidPing Cloud on SMS, and self-hosted SolidPing beats both on cost per message, at the price of running the thing yourself.

Which should you pick?

Stay on StatusCake if page speed or server metrics are part of why you bought it, if the free SMS credits are load-bearing for your alerting, or if you need a wide probe network without operating one.

Look at SolidPing when the ten-monitor free ceiling or the €19.99 step has become the question, when the things you need to watch have moved past HTTP and SSH, or when somebody needs to be paged on a rotation rather than emailed as part of a contact group. The hosted free plan costs nothing to try, and the self-hosted build costs a VM.
